The Expatriates: Biographies of Lost Generation Writers
The Lost Generation was a group of American writers who came to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s. They were disillusioned with the values of their parents' generation and rejected the materialism and conformity of American society. Instead, they sought refuge in Europe, where they could live more freely and explore their own creativity.

The Expatriates is a collection of biographies of some of the most famous Lost Generation writers, including Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, and Ezra Pound. These writers were all born in the 1890s and came of age during World War I. They were deeply affected by the war, which they saw as a senseless waste of life.
The Expatriates left America in search of a new life and a new beginning. They found it in Europe, where they were free to express themselves without fear of censorship. They also found a sense of community among other expatriates, who shared their values and their love of literature.
Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1899. He was a brilliant writer, but he was also a troubled man. He suffered from alcoholism, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. He was married four times and had three children. He died by suicide in 1961.
Hemingway's writing is characterized by its simplicity and directness. He wrote about the things he knew best: war, love, and death. His most famous works include The Sun Also Rises (1926),A Farewell to Arms (1929),and The Old Man and the Sea (1952).
F. Scott Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald's writing is characterized by its lyricism and beauty. He wrote about the American Dream and the disillusionment that followed. His most famous works include This Side of Paradise (1920),The Great Gatsby (1925),and Tender Is the Night (1934).
Gertrude Stein
Gertrude Stein was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, in 1874. She was a pioneering modernist writer who experimented with language and form. She was also a lesbian and a close friend of Ernest Hemingway. She died of cancer in 1946.
Stein's writing is characterized by its fragmented and experimental style. She wrote about the complexities of human relationships and the nature of identity. Her most famous works include Three Lives (1909),Tender Buttons (1914),and The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas (1933).
Ezra Pound
Ezra Pound was born in Hailey, Idaho, in 1885. He was a brilliant poet who was also a fascist sympathizer. He was imprisoned in a mental hospital for 12 years after World War II. He died in Venice, Italy, in 1972.
Pound's poetry is characterized by its complexity and its use of allusion and fragmentation. He wrote about a wide range of topics, including politics, history, and literature. His most famous works include The Cantos (1922-1972),Personae (1909),and Hugh Selwyn Mauberley (1920).
The Expatriates were a group of brilliant writers who left America in search of a new life and a new beginning. They found it in Europe, where they were free to express themselves without fear of censorship.
