Teenage Kicks: My Life as an Undertone
I was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1965. The Troubles were in full swing, and the city was a dangerous place to grow up. My family lived in a working-class neighborhood, and we were often caught in the crossfire between the British Army and the IRA.

I was a shy and introverted child, and I found solace in music. I started playing guitar when I was 13, and I soon discovered the music of the Undertones. The Undertones were a punk rock band from Derry, and their music spoke to me in a way that no other music did. Their songs were about the Troubles, about the violence and the poverty, but they were also about hope and resilience.
I became a huge fan of the Undertones, and I saw them play live whenever I could. I also started writing my own songs, and I soon formed a band of my own. We called ourselves the Teenage Kicks, and we played gigs in local pubs and clubs.
The Teenage Kicks were never very successful, but we had a lot of fun. We played our hearts out, and we made a lot of friends. We also got to open for some of our favorite bands, including the Undertones.
In 1983, the Undertones released their classic album, "Teenage Kicks." The album was a huge success, and it helped to put Derry on the musical map. I was so proud of the Undertones, and I knew that they had inspired me to follow my dreams.
After the Teenage Kicks broke up, I continued to play music. I played in a few other bands, and I also wrote and recorded some solo material. I never achieved the same level of success as the Undertones, but I was happy to be able to make music that I loved.
In 2004, the Undertones reunited for a series of gigs. I was thrilled to be able to see them play live again, and I was even more thrilled when they asked me to join them on stage for a few songs. It was a dream come true, and it was one of the best nights of my life.
The Undertones are still one of my favorite bands, and their music continues to inspire me. Their songs are about more than just the Troubles; they are about the human spirit, and about the power of hope. I am so grateful to the Undertones for their music, and for the role they have played in my life.
Here are some of my favorite Undertones songs:
* "Teenage Kicks" * "My Perfect Cousin" * "Here Comes the Summer" * "Get Over You" * "Julie Ocean" * "Wednesday Week" * "The Way You Do" * "Nine Times Out of Ten" * "You're Welcome" * "The Love Parade"
I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do. And if you ever get a chance to see the Undertones live, I highly recommend it. They are one of the best live bands I have ever seen.
